Hematite: its name comes from the red color found inside this stone which for thousands of years was connected to blood (αίμα, "hema" in Greek means "blood"). In ancient Babylon warriors used to carry a piece of hematitein order to give them strength to confront their enemies. There was also the belief that hematite contributed in precipitating stone walls. During Middle Ages hematite was worn as an amulet by farmers as they believed that their crops would be more productive. During the 13th century shamans used to wear a bat-shaped pendant carved on hematite as they thought it invigorated their spells.
